About the Hoedown

The Holt Rock Hoedown began in 2001 as a one-off idea that quickly evolved into a much-loved bi-annual event.

The concept was first discussed by members of the Westfield Country Music Club, a Perth based group that regularly held monthly country music barbecues at the Haulex Yard in Maddington. One of the club's active members, Gary Strother, who had became involved through regular attendance, eventually joining the committee and later serving as Vice President and President, suggested a Country Music event held on how family farm in Holt Rock, a small locality located just four hours from Perth.

On 17 October 2001, the inaugural Holt Rock Hoedown was held at the Strother family’s shearing shed.
